Travel to Galway

LOCAL AREA 

By Air via Galway Regional Airport (GWY)

There is no international airport in the immediate vicinity of Galway. Galway Regional Airport is located 16 km (10 miles) from our Athenry Centre. It is served by regular flights from Dublin and a number of UK destinations. RERC Athenry is a 20 minute taxi ride from the airport (Fare €30).

By Air via Shannon International Airport (SNN)

Shannon Airport, located approximately 75 km (48 miles) south of Galway, is the nearest international airport to the Galway area. Shannon has regular Aer Lingus flights from the UK (Heathrow) as well as Ryanair and EasyJet flights from the UK (Stansted, Gatwick, Luton, East Midlands, Bristol, Liverpool and Glasgow) and Continental Europe (Paris-Beauvais, Brussels-Charleroi, Milan-Bergamo, Malaga, Barcelona-Girona, Frankfurt-Hahn, Hamburg and Stockholm. There are also daily direct flights from New York, Washington DC, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta and Newark with Aer Lingus, Delta and Continental.

Regular Bus Eireann and CityLink bus services connect Shannon with Galway City (90 mins / Fare €22 return). There is no rail connection from Shannon to Galway.

By Air via Dublin International Airport (DUB)

Dublin Airport is located approximately 210 km (130 miles) east of Galway. Dublin airport is serviced by 150 destinations in Europe and North America. Daily flights from Dublin to Galway are operated by Aer Arann.

There is a regular CityLink bus service from Dublin Airport to Galway (3 hrs / Fare € ). There is also a regular direct train service from Dublin-Heuston Station to Athenry (2hrs 30mins / Fare €35 return). Travel from Dublin Airport to Dublin-Heuston Station using the Dublin Bus AirLink service (45 minutes / Fare €12 return).


Travel from Galway to Teagasc Atherny


By Rail

There is a regular Irish Rail service to Athenry from Galway Station (15 mins / Fare €8 return ). Teagasc Athenry is located about 3 km west of Athenry. Visitors should pre-arrange transport from Athenry to the Teagasc Campus with their Teagasc contact person.

By Car

From the East (from Dublin / Athlone):

  • Continue on N6 (Dublin-Galway road) until approx. 5 km (3 miles) west of Craughwell. 
  • At junction for R348 (sign posted Athenry) turn right (at Mother Hubbard's Restaurant).
  • Travel along road for 3km (1.8 miles)  arriving at a T junction. 
  • At T junction turn right and continue along road for a further 1km (0.6 miles), passing under a railway bridge.
  • Teagasc Athenry is located approximately a further 1km (0.6 miles) beyond railway bridge on left hand side of road.

From the West (from Galway City)

  • From Galway City centre take dual carriageway N6 heading east. Follow directions for Dublin.
  • About 8km (5 miles) outside Galway at Carrowmoneash roundabout (Quality Hotel) take 3rd exit (signposted Dublin).
  • At Oranbeg Roundabout take first exit (signposted Dublin).
  • Continue along N6 for 5km (3 miles).
  • Turn left on R348 for Athenry. Travel under railway bridge, about 0.5 km (500 yards) after turn. Continue along road for a further 4km (2.5 miles), passing under a second railway bridge.
  • Teagasc Athenry is located approximately 1km (0.6 miles) beyond railway bridge on left hand side of road.

From the South (Cork/Limerick):

  • Travel approximately 80km (50 miles) north from Limerick on N18 (Limerick- Galway road).
  • On arrival at Oranmore at Oranbeg roundabout take 3rd exit, N6 (signposted Dublin) 
  • Continue along N6 for 5km (3 miles). Turn left on R348 for Athenry. Travel under railway bridge, about 0.5 km (500 yards) after turn.
  • Continue along road for a further 4km (2.5 miles), passing under a second railway bridge.
  • Teagasc Athenry is located approximately 1km (0.6 miles) beyond railway bridge on left hand side of road.

From the North (from Sligo/Mayo/Donegal):

  • Travel south on N17 taking left turn at church in Claregalway onto N18.
  • Travel for 10 km to Oranmore and at Carrowmoneash roundabout (Quality Hotel) take 1st exit (signposted Dublin).
  • At Oranbeg Roundabout take first exit (signposted Dublin).
  • Continue along N6 for 5km (3 miles). Turn left on R348 for Athenry. Travel under railway bridge, about 0.5 km (500 yards) after turn. Continue along road for a further 4km (2.5 miles), passing under a second railway bridge.
  • Teagasc Athenry is located approximately 1km (0.6 miles) beyond railway bridge on left hand side of road.

Travel to Kinsealy, Dublin

 LOCAL AREA



RERC Kinsealy is located in the suburbs of Dublin about 10km (6 miles) north of the city centre. It is just 5km (3miles) from Dublin airport and the M50 motorway.

By Air via Dublin International Airport  (DUB)

Kinsealy is located 5km (3 miles) east of Dublin Airport. Dublin airport is serviced by 150 destinations in Europe and North America. Kinsealy is approximately a 20 minute taxi ride from Dublin Airport. Note - there is no public transport from Dublin Airport to Kinsealy.

By Road (From Dublin City Centre)

  • From St. Stephen's Green go right into Dawson St. and then follow the road around to Amiens St.
  • At traffic signals continue forward onto North Strand Road and then at the next traffic lights bear left onto Malahide Road.
  • Follow this road in the direction of Malahide, passing the Clarehall shopping centre on the right.
  • Continue straight past Campions pub on the left and the Kinsealy centre is approx.  1km (0.6 miles) on further on the right.

By Road (via M50 motorway).

  • Head North on the M50 (traffic from the south and west will need to go through the WestLink toll bridge) and continue onward in the direction of  Dublin Airport.
  • On arriving at a roundabout which is the Junction between the M50 and M1,  take the second exit (straight on) heading in the direction of Malahide.
  • Continue onward through a 60km zone.  Eventually you arrive at a major cross junction, with the Clarehall shopping centre and Total Fitness gym. At this junction take a left and continue on through a set of lights (passing Campions pub on the left). Teagasc Kinsealy is about 2km further onward on the right hand side of the road.
  • In total it should be only about ten minutes after the toll bridge.

By Rail (from Dublin-Connolly Station)

There are regular DART (tram) services from Connolly Station to Malahide (30 mins / Fare €3 return). RERC Kinsealy is about a 5 minute Taxi ride from the Malahide Dart station.

There is also a non stop Irish Rail commuter train service from Connolly to Malahide (15 mins / Fare €3 return). Although quicker, these are also less frequent than the DART service.

By Bus

Kinsealy is served by Dublin Bus Number 42 , which departs from Lower Abbey Street, close to Connolly Station (30 minutes/ Fare €1.75)
