Moorepark Animal Research Programme - Animal Health and Well-Being

The overall objective of this sub-programme is to undertake research studies and innovation activities focusing on maintaining healthy national dairy herds based on effective disease control in a welfare-friendly environment and reduced anathelmentic and antibiotic usage with animals.

Specific objectives of the sub-programme area:

  • Reduced incidence of infectious diseases in the Irish dairy cattle herds.
  • Improved welfare standards on Irish dairy farms and continued compliance with relevant welfare standards.
  • Development and Implementation of Dairy Herd Health Management Programmes
  • Development of optimal mastitis control programmes and procedures sustainable within and applicable to the Irish dairy industry
  • Epidemiology of calf survival on dairy farms
